Mother Runner

My marathoner sis, Ashley, turned me on to the "another mother runner" blog. It is awesome. I love getting all the updates from other mamas around the world who run.

One of the things I love so much about running is that it is, at the same time, both an individual and a group sport. I love to be alone when I run- I love the peace, I love competing against no one but myself, and I love the self-discovery that happens on a long run.

At the same time, I love the instant connection you feel when you meet another distance runner. You are in it together. You know what it's like to come home from a long run to the same house and family and yet feel like a totally different person.

The bond is even stronger with other mother runners. It seems like a lot of us run for the same reasons. To be the best moms we can be. To be strong for our kiddos. To model good health. To model a positive body image for our daughters. To get a few moments' peace. Before Kisa, I never would have guessed that pushing my body to its maximum potential was the easiest way to restore my mental state. But running 10 + miles is cake compared to spending 10 + hours entertaining a toddler.
